Gary Neville predicts that Manchester City will challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title. The ex-Manchester United player believes they’re back to their best.
Manchester City are on a bit of a roll and knocked city rivals United out of the League Cup on Wednesday. This comes at a bad time for Liverpool.
The Reds aren’t playing well, picking up just two points from a possible nine recently. They’re struggling to score and just don’t look right.
And Neville predicts that the dropped points let City back in. Despite United being ahead of them in the title race, Pep Guardiola’s team look like the real challengers.
“Liverpool are making mistakes, and they needed to make mistakes to let Man City back in – but they are back in,” he told Sky Sports.

“Playing like that they are a dangerous proposition. They will be the ones that will most cause Liverpool problems.”
What RTK has to say
He’s right – City worry us. They seem to have clicked after a rocky start and Liverpool’s dropped points create a problem.
City go top if they win their games in hand and we’d now back them to do so.
Still, this kind of turnaround also shows how fast things can change. Liverpool could recapture their best in a flash, while City could falter.
Right now, we want both of those things to happen. The title is in both Liverpool and City’s hands, after all.
But they can’t each win all of their games – they’ve got to play one another. That comes next month in what will be a huge game. The winner will feel like title favourites.
But before that, there’s United. Liverpool host their old rivals next Sunday in a game that will put a team top of the pile.
The Reds will want momentum heading into that City game, especially with Tottenham Hotspur in between. That starts against United, then.
One thing is for sure – this title race won’t be as simple as last year’s.
