Liverpool may struggle as Arsenal reportedly enter Yves Bissouma battle

Arsenal want Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to reports. That’s not good news for Liverpool, another potential suitor.

Football London claims that Arsenal want Yves Bissouma. The Brighton midfielder is certainly making a name for himself in the Premier League and the Gunners like the look of him.

ESPN recently reported that Liverpool like Bissouma, too, as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. They believe the player would cost around £30m to get him away from the Seagulls, though.

Now, usually, we wouldn’t worry too much about all this. Arsenal can want a player as much as they like but Liverpool hold the power.

But the Gunners could make this particular battle a tough one.

For starts, Football London’s report says Bissouma is actually an Arsenal fan. It depends from player to player how much pull that has but it’s undoubtedly a factor.

If everything is even, Bissouma chooses Arsenal, then.

Things aren’t even, of course. Liverpool have their own pull both in terms of potential success and a proven track record of developing players.

But what works against them is their bloated squad. Bissouma can easily look at Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, then wonder how he’d get in the team.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are reportedly making room for players. The Independent says they’re about to undergo a clearout.

That would certainly leave room for Bissouma, who could get guaranteed games. Suddenly, this one isn’t clear cut at all.

We like the look of Bissouma and think he’d be a great fit at Anfield. But if Arsenal truly want him – and are willing to guarantee him a first XI place – then Liverpool may struggle to pull this one off.

In some ways, it’s struggling from success. You can only have so many first XI spots, after all, and they’re all taken.
