Barcelona still plan on a move for Gini Wijnaldum, according to reports. The situation is getting quite complicated, however.
This comes from Sky Sports. They say that Barcelona do want Wijnaldum and could bid this month. But then come the complications.
Firstly, there’s the obvious one. Wijnaldum is out of contract at the end of the season and would be free. Do you really want to spend money on him?
Secondly, Barcelona don’t plan on signing anyone ahead of the Presidential Elections on January 24th. Any potential move would come in the last week of the window, then.
But whoever wins that election could completely scrap the current plans and head in a different direction. Which brings us to another complication here: Ronald Koeman.

Koeman is the one pushing for Wijnaldum, along with another compatriot in Memphis Depay. But will the club back him now, let alone a new technical director and president?
Barcelona are fifth, after all, and not playing particularly well.
What RTK has to say
Put this all together and, quite honestly, any Wijnaldum move to Barcelona this month feels like a stretch. At the same time, it could very well happen.
We must remember that Liverpool have absolutely no obligation to sell, of course. But if they do want any money for Wijnaldum, they’ll have to sell.
That would mean a long wait until the end of the month for everyone involved. You’d imagine that the Dutchman would wait until Barcelona offer him terms before accepting anything from anyone else, for instance.
This one isn’t going away for a few weeks, it seems. Wijnaldum to Barcelona was one of the dominant stories of the summer, of course, and we’re gearing up for another window of it.
