Liverpool have been linked with every centre back under the sun in recent weeks and months. These rumours come as no surprise given the state of the defence at the minute. Anybody who can walk can start at centre back these days. James Pearce has delivered an update on the Liverpool stance on Sven Botman.
Liverpool need a centre back
For crying out loud just anybody please.
Liverpool currently have no fit senior centre backs.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are unlikely to play together again this season after the pair picked up knee injuries in Autumn.
Joel Matip has been sidelined with an issue of his own.
This has left Fabinho in the heart of the back four alongside Nat Phillips and/or Rhys Williams for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool and Sven Botman update
Duncan Castles recently claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast that Liverpool are working on a deal for Sven Botman.
The journalist said that the Reds have been impressed with his progress at Lille and could bring him in for around double the £7m the French club paid for him in the summer.
James Pearce, however, is having none of it.
The respected Reds journo has refuted any suggestions of Liverpool interest in Botman, suggesting it is a ploy to drive up his price.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Sven Botman sounded like the ideal move.
He appears to be relatively inexpensive, good on the ball and of good stock having come from Ajax.
However if, as James Pearce claims, the Reds aren’t interested then we can only assume they’ve spotted something to put them off.
Back to the drawing board lads.
