Internazionale’s asking price is too high for Liverpool to sign Milan Skriniar, according to reports. The Italian won’t budge, however.
This comes from Calciomercato. They claim Liverpool really like Milan Skriniar but can’t justify paying the asking price.
The report says that Inter won’t sell Skriniar for even £44m and certainly won’t drop that figure lower. Liverpool know that, too, and thus no offer is imminent.
The Reds consider anything over £44m to be too high. Inter consider that to be too low. If neither changes their stance, this one isn’t getting off the ground.
What RTK has to say
This is how it usually goes, really. A buying club has a price in mind, a selling club has a price in mind – they both have to overlap, though.

And in al honesty, it makes virtually no sense for Inter to consider dropping their price. Their challenging for the Scudetto and Skriniar is a key player – why sell him in January?
The report does say that things can change with a huge offer but that goes for nearly every player on the planet. We can’t see Liverpool making such an offer, though.
Things will have to get pretty desperate for the Reds to dramatically up their valuation. And it sounds like it would have to be quite a rise.
The only real way that happens is if poor form over January leaves people worried that Liverpool can’t compete. Then you can justify overpaying in order to deliver a league title.
If the Reds believe they can win things without overpaying, though, then they simply won’t put up the extra money. It’s just not how they operate.
This will be an interesting month, then. We’re not sure how bad things would have to get before Liverpool effectively panic-buy but January 2021 is a chance to find out.
But hopefully, it doesn’t come to that.
