'Probably the only team' James Milner responds to Manchester United form

Liverpool are somehow top of the Premier League. The Reds have been hit with every challenge possible this term yet here we are, on New Year’s Day, top of the league. Other sides are definitely within touching distance, including the old enemy. James Milner has responded to Manchester United being in strong form.

Libpool top’ the league

The Reds have been plagued by injury, illness and ridiculous scheduling this term.

Jürgen Klopp has lost his starting centre back partnership.

He has been without his star signing in midfield, his bargain buy of a forward and, for a time, his star keeper.

Despite it all, Liverpool are top of the Premier League on New Year’s Day.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Spurs have all been dropping points, as have the Reds, yet we are still top.

James Milner on Manchester United

Our old enemy are encroaching on our spot at the top.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils have put together a string of strong results, meaning they can go level on points at the top with a win over Aston Villa.

James Milner has commented on Manchester United being in strong form, The Metro quote the midfielder as saying:

“I think it [Liverpool’s current position] is a positive but it seems to be at this moment in time that nobody wants to take it by the scruff of the neck.

“We’ve dropped points, everyone seems to be dropping points. United have had a good run and they’re probably the only team who are putting a run together.

“It’s important that we need to kick on now and get a few three-pointers. But the world is in a very strange place at the moment and it’s the same in football.

“Everybody’s lives are upside down, it’s tough mentally for everybody and it’s the same in football. We just need to keep plugging away.”

What RTK has to say

James Milner will be desperate to beat Manchester United to the title.

The midfielder spent time at Man City, Leeds United and now Liverpool.

He’s completed the holy trinity of Man United’s rivals, he’s well versed in wanting to beat the Red Devils.

Hopefully United’s squad don’t have the nerve to maintain their form until the end of the season.

This Liverpool side is a side of winners, we’ll be able to keep it up.
