Liverpool are in dire need of reinforcements at the back. The Reds have seen their defends dropping like flies this term and their bad luck is showing no signs of letting up. Many fans believe a January move is an absolute necessity. Twitter has reacted to reports that Liverpool will bid for Sven Botman in the winter window.
Liverpool linked with Sven Botman
The Reds have been linked with a move for every defender under the sun in recent weeks and months.
According to Duncan Castles, Liverpool will move for Sven Botman in January.
The transfer expert seems convinced of the Reds’ interest, telling the Transfer Window Podcast:
“Liverpool are working on a deal. That is Sven Botman, in his first season at Lille from Ajax for an initial €8m [£7m].
“He’s been outstanding at Lille. Netherlands squad, 21 next month. Tall, quick, incredibly strong one-on-one.
“They would be willing to sell the player for twice and a little bit more than the fee they paid.
“They have been speaking to Botman’s agent. Botman’s agent likes the sounds of the conversations and believes there is a strong possibility of a January bid.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Sven Botman would make plenty of sense.
The Dutchman is young at just 20-years-old and has massively improved Lille defensively.
He is good with a ball at his feet and has plenty of time to improve under the tutelage of Virgil van Dijk.
He would also be a relatively inexpensive option in comparison to the likes of Dayot Upamecano.
Frankly, we just need a defender desperately. We’ll trust the club’s judgement, they just need to get something done.
