Liverpool faced West Brom tonight hoping to open up a gap at the top of the league but they dropped points. Sam Allardyce did what Sam Allardyce does, he set up not to lose and he didn’t. It’s not pretty but it works. Here are our Liverpool player ratings v West Brom:

Alisson Becker – 8.5
The Brazilian had barely anything to do, we can’t fault him for the result.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
The Scouser was always on the ball, faultless defensively. He’s just a diamond.
Fabinho – 6
The Brazilian can’t be faulted he didn’t have much to do but somehow it wasn’t enough.
Joel Matip – 8.5
The Cameroonian provided an immaculate assist for Sadio Mane’s goal. His passing ability is underrated.
Andy Robertson – 8.5
Andy Robbo, published author, was determined and relentless we can’t really fault him.
Curtis Jones – 7
The Scouser is utterly undroppable at the moment but we needed just that little bit more against a stubborn defence.
Gini Wijnaldum – 7
The Dutchman is always moving, always pressing but it wasn’t enough today.
Jordan Henderson – 7
The skipper screams at his teammates and we love that. He keeps the tempo high with his demands but he didn’t create enough.
Mo Salah – 7
Mo must be horrifying to face. He is so inventive, so sharp but his second half wasn’t good enough. We needed to kill the game.
Sadio Mane – 8.5
Sadio was always looking for the ball and always making things happening. His goal was just unbelievable. How did he do it?
Roberto Firmino – 7
The Brazilian played some sharp passes but wasn’t inventive enough overall.
