Liverpool face West Brom later today in the Premier League. Here are three things that would make the game a perfect late Christmas present.
Mane and Firmino
Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino both shook off some cobwebs against Crystal Palace. The latter had scored the winner against Tottenham Hotspur, of course, but the Palace display was his best all-around performance for a while.
Mane got his first goal since October 17th in the game, too. It was a sign that both are ready to get back to their best.
So a performance against West Brom would suggest the same. It’s the next big test – can they string together a couple of solid showings?
If they do, Liverpool can enter the New Year full of confidence.
Both James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri are back. Neither have played for some time Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the two are ready to go.
So getting the two back to full fitness is imperative. It would bolster the squad hugely and help Liverpool get over the hump of this injury crisis.
As they look to kick on an assault for every major trophy in 2021, Liverpool need as many first-team players as possible.
The game against the Baggies is step one to getting two back to match-fitness.
Alright, this is a cheap one – of course Liverpool want three points.
But after Manchester United and Leicester City drew, a win would open up a decent gap at the top. Liverpool are two points above second-place Everton and can stretch that to five.
Doing so right as players return from injury and others find form would be a terrifying prospect for the rest of the league.
Hopefully, the Reds can do just that. It would put them well on their way to another year of Premier League glory.
