Journalist claims Liverpool 'in contact' to sign Ozan Kabak

Liverpool have been decimated by injuries this season and the defence has been the worst hit area of the squad by far. The Reds have seen a majority of their back line consigned to the treatment table at one time or another. A January move by the Reds is somewhat expected. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are looking to sign Ozan Kabak and are in contact with his agents.

Liverpool injury woes

This season the Reds made a huge gamble when they sold Dejan Lovren without replacing him.

Many fans and pundits thought the move was a risk as it left the first team with just three recognised centre backs.

Since then two of the three have fallen victim to long term knee injuries.

There are no return dates in sight for Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Joel Matip has been lining up alongside Fabinho and Rhys Williams.

The lack of numbers at the centre of defence has led many to suggest a January move is necessary.

Liverpool in contact over Ozan Kabak

There have been dozens of defenders linked with a move to the Premier League champions.

Liverpool and Ozan Kabak have been frequently listed in the gossip pages together.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool want to sign Ozan Kabak in January and have contacted his agents. He told the Here We Go podcast:

“Ozan Kabak is so appreciated by the [Liverpool] board. Let’s see what’s going on.

“At the moment there is no advanced negotiations. They’re in contact with his agents. They’re scouting the player, but there is nothing advanced yet.”

What RTK has to say

Liverpool signing Ozan Kabak has been one of those stories that just won’t go away.

The defender has had his price tag slashed and slashed in the past year as Schalke descend into further financial turmoil.

The Telegraph believe his price tag has dropped to just £18m.

In August the Daily Mail reported his price tag as closer to £40m.

We aren’t completely convinced by the 20-year-old given that this hasn’t been his strongest season – he has a WhoScored rating of just 6.08 in the league.

However, if the Reds want him then they are nearly always right.
