Triple boost dramatically increases Liverpool chance of Double season

Liverpool really could be on for a Double season. This comes after a triple boost that dramatically increases the Reds’ chances.

A two-trophy season – effectively the one thing Jurgen Klopp hasn’t managed at Liverpool. We’re talking ‘major’ trophies here, of course, and not counting the FIFA Club World Cup or UEFA Super Cup.

In fact, Liverpool haven’t lifted two major trophies in one season since 2001. They lifted three that season, of course – the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Cup.

Now, Klopp’s wins with the Champions League and Premier League outweigh that trio. But it remains that he hasn’t had a dominant season where Liverpool won multiple competitions.

And at the level Liverpool are, that’s the next goal.

Perhaps, then, Liverpool have a chance this year after a triple injury boost.

Liverpool welcomed Thiago, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri back to first-team training on Wednesday. That’s huge news – none of them have played in weeks.

It immediately boosts the numbers in the Liverpool squad and adds a world-class talent in Thiago.

And this news should work wonder for Liverpool’s FA Cup campaign.

With an injury crisis at the club, we expect Klopp would have put out the kids against Aston Villa in the third-round. That’s what he did last year, after all, following a hectic December schedule.

This time, though, December hasn’t been as hectic. And now Liverpool have far more available options at the club with this returning trio.

They’ll need games consistently to regain fitness, with Milner and Shaqiri, at the very least, surely pencilled in to face Villa.

Klopp can afford to put out a strong team, then. In doing so, Liverpool won’t throw away a chance at a Double season.

That is, winning both the FA Cup and Premier League. Liverpool haven’t achieved that since 1986 under Kenny Dalglish.

But it’s a real possibility this season. When everyone is fit, this is by far the best and deepest Liverpool squad in a very, very long time.

In fact, probably ever, in truth.

Hopefully, this is the season Liverpool can show their dominance on a new scale and deliver the double.
