Liverpool have won the race for Stefan Bajcetic, according to reports. The Reds managed to get ahead of rivals Manchester United for the signature.
This comes from Spanish outlet La Voz de Galicia. They claim that Liverpool will announce Stefan Bajcetic imminently.
The Reds usurped Manchester United to get the player, too. The old rivals were on the brink of a move themselves, according to the report, before Liverpool swooped in to get him.
Although, Liverpool were apparently the first team interested. United thought they’d managed to get ahead in this race – and it very much appears like a race – only to lose it at the last.
Per the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are very close to this one. They point out a race against time on this one, though.
The UK leaves the EU on January 1st, which will dramatically restrict signing young players from Europe. It will effectively end any chances, in truth.
If Liverpool want Bajcetic, then, they have to get it done before 2021 kicks off.
So who exactly is Bajcetic? Well, we don’t really know very much.
The kid is only sixteen but per that article, has been with Celta Vigo for seven years. Despite being on the brink of their first-team squad, he’s yet to make a senior debut.
We know he’s a centre-back, too, and thus he’ll add to the very promising selection that Liverpool already have.
Rhys Williams is effectively in the first-team squad right now, with Billy Koumetio not far behind. Then there’s Sepp van den Berg, who joined in 2019.
All are teenagers with bright futures. Bajcetic would be the youngster, though, and therefore needs quite a bit of time.
He’ll face a tough fight for the Liverpool first-team but given the effort the Reds are putting in here, they must expect him to make it.
