Calum Scanlon announced his transfer to Liverpool with an Instagram post. The teenager joins the Reds from Birmingham City.
It appears Liverpool have completed a transfer for Calum Scanlon. Reports had previously claimed that the Reds agreed a fee with Birmingham City.
The Times, to name one, claimed it would be under £500k.
And it looks like the deal is done. Scanlon took to Instagram to announce his signing.
“Happy to sign with [Liverpool],” he wrote. “A big thank you to [Birmingham City] and everyone who has helped me progress to this point, but as of today I start a new chapter.
“The hard work continues, let’s go!”
And to remove any doubt about it, Scanlon included a photo of himself signing the contract in a Liverpool shirt.
We can safely say this one is done, then.
What RTK has to say
We don’t know too much about Scanlon, of course. He’s a 15-year-old, after all, without senior experience.
He can play left-back or in midfield, which suggests the kind of versatility Liverpool love. Virtually everyone in the first-team can play multiple positions, after all.
It also increases the chances that he’ll eventually find a first-team place, too. It won’t be easy, of course, but that trait effectively doubles the liklihood.
It’ll now be up to Liverpool to decide where he best suits.
The Reds have a growing selection of top young players. We recently highlighted how there is practically an XI of exciting talents ready to make the step up.
At 15, we wouldn’t put Scanlon there anytime soon. But that’s got to be his next aim – push towards first-team training over the next few years.
We’ve seen countless others do it since Jurgen Klopp arrived at the club. That’s likely what pushed Scanlon towards choosing Liverpool, in fact.
This is a club where young players can get a chance with a world-class side. Now Scanlon must prove himself.
