Alan Shearer was full of praise for Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian ‘took centre stage’ against Crystal Palace. The Premier League legend liked what he saw.
Roberto Firmino was arguably the star of the show against Crystal Palace and Alan Shearer certainly saw it that way. Firmino was outstanding.
He grabbed two goals and an assist in a fantastic all-around performance.
His first goal came on the back of a world-class attack. Firmino picked the ball up in midfield, turned, and fired a pass out left to Andy Robertson.
From there, the £29m man sprinted towards the Palace goal before receiving the low cross from Robertson. Firmino took a sensational first-touch and poked it home.

The second, though, was a different kind of goal. It was the strike of a pure no.9.
Mohamed Salah, fresh off the bench, played a wonderful pass into the box. Firmino took it towards goal and, while off-balance, somehow lifted it over the goalkeeper to complete a brace.
Shearer was impressed.
“So often the team player who allows the other forwards to shine, [Firmino] took centre-stage with two goals of such high quality and an assist,” he wrote.
Shearer included Firmino in his Team of the Week, alongside three other Reds.
What RTK has to say
Firmino was truly outstanding on Saturday. We wrote afterwards that he put in a complete performance, in fact.
It means the Brazilian has left his mark for two games in a row, following his last-gasp winner against Tottenham Hotspur.
What wonderful timing, then. Diogo Jota is out for a few more weeks but Firmino has stepped up to find goals after a worrying dry spell.
Hopefully, this is just the start of a bright run of good form from Liverpool’s no.9.
