Liverpool are thought to be on the lookout for a centre back. There’s no prizes for guessing why. The Reds have been ravaged at the back and have spent most of the season relying on youngsters and out of position first teamers. According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool are targeting Sven Botman to fill the gap.
Liverpool centre back crisis
Have you ever seen worse luck with injuries than the luck we’ve had this season?
Liverpool have lost every last one of their senior centre backs to injury at one time or another this term.
Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season after rupturing his ACL in the Merseyside Derby.
Joe Gomez will miss most of the campaign with a knee problem of his own.

Even makeshift centre half Fabinho bowed out of the side with a hamstring problem.
Joel Matip has been in and out of the side but is thankfully fit at the moment.
Liverpool want Sven Botman
According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool are targeting Sven Botman.
The 20-year-old centre back joined Lille from Ajax in the summer and he has been incredibly impressive at the Ligue 1 side.
He’s earned a WhoScored rating of 7.14 for his commanding performances at the back.
According to the report, the French side are willing to sell him for €30m (£27m).
This would be encouraging for the Reds as they were allegedly open to paying up to €50m (£45m) and apparently contacted him in November.
What RTK has to say
Now you’re talking.
This would be a proper signing. Liverpool moving for Sven Botman fits the profile perfectly.
He would be an off the beaten track signing in that he isn’t being talked about constantly yet.
That already makes him a typical Liverpool signing: well out of left field.
Hopefully this story has some legs, we do need reinforcements.
