Leeds United and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips labels Mohamed Salah ‘the best’ after facing him this season. The Egyptian made a fantastic impression.
Kalvin Phillips clearly rates Mohamed Salah very, very highly. The midfielder faced him on the opening day and still believes he’s ‘the best’ he’s come up against.
The Leeds United midfield talked to the BBC Five Live Football Daily podcast about life in the Premier League. There, he explained that Salah was ‘unbelievable’.
“The main thing was when we got into the final third or even the defending third like how quickly [Liverpool] moved the ball, and how sharp they were,” said Phillips.
“I played Salah, he scored a hat trick in that game. He’s the best player I’ve played against so far, he was just so sharp, he was unbelievable.”

What RTK has to say
Phillips, now 25, has made a huge step up this season. After four full years of Championship football, he’s in the Premier League and playing for England.
And his introduction to the former was a real baptism of fire. Leeds faced Liverpool at Anfield and lost 4-3.
In truth, Leeds gave an incredible example of themselves and were very unfortunate not to get anything. Salah, though, had other ideas as he bagged a hat-trick.
And it’s nice to hear that months later, Phillips still sees that as the pinnacle he’s come up against. Leeds have faced several top sides, after all.
But then, Salah is having a fantastic season. He’s got 13 goals and three assists this season, and only Harry Kane can better that number of contributions.
Not that you need stats to see how good Salah is. He’s undoubtedly one of the world’s best players and has been for a few years now.
Phillips saw that up close months ago and still says it’s the best he’s come across. And given how good Salah was that day, the England international might not see better anytime soon.
