Sadio Mane can complete a fantastic week for Liverpool. The Reds have had four reasons to celebrate over the past seven days.
What a week it has been and yet Sadio Mane can make it even better. The Senegalese forward just needs a goal.
Okay, so the week started quite poorly. Liverpool drew with Fulham after a pretty terrible performance, all things considered.
It’s been better since, though.
Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Anfield on Wednesday – a massive win in the title race and for the Reds’ entire season. It opens up a lead at the top of the Premier League table, as well as putting Jose Mourinho in his place.
More than that, it featured a last-minute winner from Robert Firmino. That was his first goal or assist in eight games – and what a time to get it.
The Brazilian can, hopefully, use that to springboard into some good form.
And things are even looking positive on the injury front, for once. Joel Matip missed the Spurs game but appears to be back already. He trained on Friday ahead of the game against Crystal Palace.
Matip is ‘likely to be fit’ for the game – wonderful news as we worried he could be out for a little while.
And a fourth reason to shout came around as Thiago was pictured training. Now, he’s still on his for now but Jurgen Klopp says the Spaniard could finally resume first-team training next week.
A Mane goal and win against Palace could hand a fifth boost this week, then. Much like Firmino, the £34m forward has struggled for form in recent weeks.
He hasn’t actually scored a Premier League goal since Virgil van Dijk’s injury, in fact. His record in all competitions isn’t much better – 1 goal and two assists in 14 games.
The week can’t be absolutely perfect thanks to that Fulham draw. But Mane finding his form and producing for Liverpool would push it mightily close.
Fingers crossed he can get on the scoresheet and give us all something else to shout about this week.
