Liverpool will wait on Harvey Elliott despite his fantastic form, according to reports. The teenager is thriving with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Liverpool will not bring Harvey Elliott back in January, despite his form.
And what form it is. The 17-year-old (remember that, 17), has scored in back-to-back Championship games for the first time.
It takes his season record to four goals, four assists in the league. But it appears he’s getting better.
His more recent record is three goals and an assist in his last five games. That, despite the tiny sample-size, suggests Elliott is really finding his footing.
He’s got a few games left before January, of course, when Liverpool can make a decision. And at this rate, he’ll only increase the calls to bring him back.
But Liverpool should resist.
Right place, right time
Elliott is doing really well at Blackburn Rovers. He’s playing an important role and performing for a club that can do better.
Rovers are only 11th in the Championship, after all. They’re a team that has room for growth – and that could help Elliott even further.
But the major thing to consider is what Liverpool would actually benefit by bringing Elliott back. Because it doesn’t seem like much.
He’d be fairly far down the pecking order, despite his Championship displays, and would be unlikely to affect the title race in any major way.
And if Elliott is playing as much, he won’t develop as much. The short-term gain in bringing him back is minimal, while the long-term benefits of leaving him in Lancashire are great.
If the last five games are an indication of things clicking for Elliott, then he could explode over the latter half of the season.
And doing so would leave Liverpool with an incredibly exciting talent. Elliott would be proven as a force at Championship level, likely good enough to impact Premier League games, and he’d still only be 18.

That’s not the kind of player you can easily find. It would all set Elliott up for a huge 21/22 season – wherever that may be.
So hopefully, Liverpool leave Elliott with Blackburn. It’s gone wonderfully so far and it should only get better from here.
