Liverpool are back at the top of the Premier League after an impressive victory over Spurs. The Reds had to work hard for the three points but they came out on top in the end. Jürgen Klopp’s side went into Wednesday night’s tie without a senior centre back available.
Rhys Williams filled in alongside Fabinho and the pair managed to do enough.
Mo Salah put the hosts ahead with a deflected effort in the first half.
Heung Min Son equalised before halftime with a well taken finish.
The second half saw teh visitors with the better chances but they failed to take them.
Roberto Firmino secured the win with a 90th minute header, sending Liverpool three points clear at the top of the league.
Fabinho v Spurs
Since Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have dropped out of the side due to injury, we’ve seen Fabinho slot into the back four.
The Brazilian has proven to be a revelation at centre back.
His reading of the game and his eye for a tackle have made him nigh on impassable.
Fabinho was in fine form against Spurs.
The 27-year-old demonstrated all the composure in the world in the second half as he rushed into a 50/50 and nicked the ball past two Spurs players before passing it off.
It was a wonderful exhibition of calmness and skill.
