Liverpool could take advantage of a bad situation at Lille to sign Renato Sanches. Reports claim the Reds like the player.
Liverpool reportedly want Lille star Renato Sanches. That’s according to Le10Sport.
The French outlet claims that the Reds might move for Sanches in January. Now, that’s dependent on Gini Wijnaldum’s situation.
The Dutchman is out of contract in the summer, opening the door for a January move. Le10Sport name Barcelona as a potential suitor, for instance.
We don’t believe Liverpool would sell Wijnaldum in January, however. His benefit over the last few months of the season – especially during an injury-hit campaign – outweighs any potential fee.
But if Liverpool truly do like the look of Sanches, a financial crisis at Lille could help them along.
Desperate times
Lille’s owner, Gerard Lopez, is likely selling the club, per L’Equipe. The strain of 2020 has become too much and creditors are coming in.
The club needs cash, then, and the quickest way to find it is by selling your assets. Sanches is, arguably, their highest-valued asset.
Lille paid around £22m to Bayern Munich for Sanches – and he wasn’t even good there. His form has improved immensely while in France, and he’s still only 23.
So in ‘normal’ times, Sanches would have risen in price quite substantially. Lille sold Victor Osimhen to Napoli this year for £63m, for instance.
But with creditors coming in, that all changes. They’ll want money fast and they’ll want whatever reasonable price they can get.
So if Liverpool do want Sanches, now is the time to strike. Get a deal done quickly, take advantage of the situation, and sign the player while they need to sell.
Is it worth moving Wijnaldum on for? Of course not. But perhaps you can get a deal done for the summer and let Sanches see out the season in France.
Such a deal would be far too good to pass up at Lille, you’d imagine.
