Liverpool have been devastated by injuries this season. The Reds have seen their centre back options decimated by bad luck and a hectic fixture list. As a result we are in dire need of reinforcements at the back. Liverpool signing Eric Garcia on a free would be the perfect move if the club can hold their nerve until the summer.

Liverpool need reinforcements

At the time of writing it’s unknown whether or not Joel Matip will be fit for Wednesday’s visit from Spurs.

This means the Reds are without a single senior centre back in the first team.

Virgil van Dijk ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby and Joe Gomez picked up a knee problem on England duty.

Since then we’ve had to rely on youngsters, midfielders and the patchy fitness of Joel Matip.

Reinforcements in defence are a necessity.

Eric Garcia contract

Over the summer it was rumoured that Barcelona would make a move for Manchester City’s Eric Garcia.

The 19-year-old defender is now in the final year of his contract at the Etihad and The Guardian reported in August that he is unwilling to renew his deal.

This means that from January he can negotiate with foreign clubs, whilst domestic sides have to wait until the summer.

The starlet became a semi-regular fixture at a point last term, making 13 league appearances in total for the City first team.

Liverpool should pursue Eric Garcia

The Reds are in dire need of numbers at the back.

However, when Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez return any incoming defender will be second fiddle.

As a result, Liverpool should pursue Eric Garcia.

The 19-year-old is young enough to be content with cup fixtures and rotating in and out of the side.

Given that he’s available on a free transfer in the summer he would also be a bargain option.

We need to strengthen other areas of the pitch as well, it would be a real coup if we could nail down one aree with a free transfer.

There is also, of course, the added bonus of snatching a prospect from our rivals on a free.
