Ex-Red Rafa Camacho is looking for a transfer just 18 months after rejecting a Liverpool contract, according to reports. The 20-year-old hasn’t seen things go to plan.
This comes from O Jogo in Portugal. They say that Rafa Camacho is hoping for a way out of Sporting in January after struggling badly for first-team football.
It comes after returning to the club from Liverpool in June 2019. Camacho had wanted first-team football, per the Guardian, and that resulted in him rejecting a contract offer from Liverpool.
In turn, the Reds looked to move Camacho on before his contract expired. It eventually saw him return home, rejecting offers from AC Milan, Wolves and Schalke 04 for the same first-team worries.
Liverpool got £5m for Camacho and the two parties seperated.
What RTK has to say
Camacho must be gutted, really. He left at the worst-possible time for a young player at Liverpool.
We completely understand his worries, though. Liverpool had just won the Champions League and that creates an overwhelming prospect for young players.
How, after all, will they break into a team of European champions? Especially when such sides always invest in the wake of their triumph.
As it turned out, Liverpool didn’t invest at all. And that Champions League win actually worked heavily in favour of young players – more than anyone.
The extra games forced through opportunities as Jurgen Klopp tried to manage the workload. And as a result, the likes of Curtis Jones and Neco Williams got senior opportunities.
Camacho would have had those same chances if he’d stuck around. He was effectively Jones’s peer, breaking into the pre-season squads alongside him.

But while the Scouser is now thriving in the Premier League starting XI, Camacho is struggling in Portugal.
Hopefully, the 20-year-old can find a new club where he can finally shine.
