Jurgen Klopp talked in glowing terms about a young Liverpool trio. The Reds boss is clearly proud of the youngsters’ efforts this season.
Jurgen Klopp has had to call on young players this season. He’s had little choice.
The injury crisis has cut through his first-team options game after game, forcing the Liverpool boss to improvise. Some of that improvisation has come through new positions but some youngsters got chances, too.
And in some cases, they’re chances they wouldn’t have dreamed of. Takes Rhys Williams – the 19-year-old played National League football last season. This year, Williams played in the Champions League.
Or Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irishman was third-choice behind two highly experienced senior goalkeepers and yet Kelleher played both Champions League and Premier League games.

Billy Koumetio, too, made his Liverpool debut last week. The 17-year-old hopefully kicked off his very bright senior future.
These three have certainly been immense. Klopp agrees – that’s for sure – as he raved about all three over the weekend.
“Rhys Williams? From the moment he trained with us, I could see he was a proper talent,” he said, per Sky Sports. “Billy Koumetio? Incredible.
“Caoimhin? It’s certainly given him the opportunity and he’s done exceptionally well.
“We were always sure he was a massive talent but no one can say exactly he will react in a proper, proper game.
“He looks like a calm person – and he is! But he’s also a very good goalkeeper.”
It’s all wonderful to hear. Liverpool aren’t just a team on top of the world right now but they’re the place to be for young talent.
Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Nat Phillips are other academy players with first-team opportunities this season. And, most impressive of all, all six players mentioned took those chances.
We don’t know if there’s room in the squad for all of them but the talent is there. It’s an incredibly exciting period for Liverpool. Long may it continue.
