Liverpool face decisive fixture

The top of the table is as tight as we’ve seen it in recent seasons.

Liverpool and Spurs are joint top on points, Jose Mourinho’s side edging the lead on goal difference.

This midweek’s Anfield clash could well separate the two sides as we head deeper into the December fixture list.

The Reds are unbeaten in three years at home but a string of injuries have put this record under threat.

Joel Matip injury update

At the weekend Joel Matip was brought off at halftime.

Takumi Minamino replaced the Cameroonian with Jordan Henderson dropping into defence.

The centre back was said to have suffered a back spasm. Jürgen Klopp has issued a Joel Matip injury update ahead of this week’s clash with Spurs.

The boss told his pre-match press conference:

“I don’t know yet. Only two days ago we played, he left the pitch with a back spasm.

“The physios worked pretty much 24 hours on him, so we will see. Today we have another session and then we will see.”

What RTK has to say

Jürgen Klopp hasn’t given much away with his Joel Matip injury update.

The Reds are going to need a decent helping of luck to get the centre back ready for the game.

He has had numerous fitness issues in the past, this is just the latest in a long line.

Given the other injuries in defence the boss won’t want to rush him back and risk further injury.

This one could well be touch and go until kick off.
