We know who Liverpool can get in the Champions League draw next Monday. There are some big names in there. There are some ties easier than others. The only thing we are certain of is that Jürgen Klopp will be determined to go one better than last season. A report by the Daily Mail has claimed that for Liverpool the most likely Champions League draw is Borussia Monchengladbach.
Liverpool group stage success
Usually Liverpool leave it late to secure a place in the knockout phase of the Champions League.
Then again, we usually draw Napoli so we have to leave it late for the sake of drama.
This term was a lot more straightforward, the Reds secured top spot in the group with a game to spare.
We saw Jürgen Klopp’s men underwhelm in both legs against FC Midtjylland and in the home tie with Atalanta.
However, they showed up twice against Ajax and blew away the Serie A side in their own back yard.
Liverpool most likely Champions League draw
Now that it’s all settled we know who Liverpool can get in the Champions League draw next Monday, it will be one of:
- Atletico Madrid
- Borussia Monchengladbach
- FC Porto
- Sevilla
- SS Lazio
- FC Barcelona
- RB Leipzig
The Daily Mail has crunched the numbers and revealed for Liverpool the most likely Champions League draw is Borussia Monchengladbach.
Given the seeding of nations, group winners and group opponents, certain teams only have a few avenues open to them; for instance Real Madrid can only draw one of four teams, whereas Liverpool can draw one of seven.
The Reds have an 18.38% chance of drawing Gladbach, Porto are the least likely draw at 10.63%.
What RTK has to say
Should Liverpool get Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League draw then we will be happy bunnies.
Whilst the German side have put in some strong performances this term we believe the Reds should have more than enough to see them off.
There is also, of course, the special history shared between the clubs. Liverpool beat Borussia Monchengladbach in the 1977 European Cup final.
