FIFA nominated two from Liverpool for their ‘The Best’ awards on Friday. The duo will hope to make it two times in a row.

FIFA announced the nominations for their ‘The Best’ awards later this year, with two Liverpool figures named.

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp is up for the Coach of the Year award after winning last year. He’s in with a shout, of course, after leading Liverpool to an historic Premier League title.

He did it at a canter, too, as the Reds were champions-elect for pretty much the entirety of 2020. Though, he does face some stiff competition.

The first is Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine made some history of his own, guiding Leeds United back the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Also up for the award is Hansi Flick – surely, the favourite to win. Flick turned around a stumbling Bayern Munich side and guided them to the Treble. In a year without an international competition, it’s virtually impossible to compete with that.

We’d like to see Klopp win, of course, but it would be an upset.

Alisson Becker

Alisson took home The Best Goalkeeper award last year and he’s a strong contender for this one, too. He helped win the Premier League as, once again, the outstanding goalkeeper in the competition.

Jan Oblak and Manuel Neuer are also nominated, though. While we’d back Alisson to finish above Oblak, Neuer is a very probable winner.

2020 has seen the German return to form – something he’s lacked since his injury in 2017. The fact he delivered the Treble – as captain – makes him the likely favourite, much like his manager.

So while Alisson certainly hasn’t dipped in form, Neuer can probably put too many medals on the table this year for the Brazilian to compete with.
