Gary Neville has strong feelings on this current Liverpool team. He’s said exactly how he sees things going in the Premier League title race.
Gary Neville thinks this Liverpool team would win the title ‘at a canter’ – if things had gone their way. As it is, the Premier League season will be a little tougher.
“I think Liverpool win this league at a canter if [Virgil] Van Dijk is fit,” he told the Gary Neville podcast. “I really do, nobody can get near them
“I still think Liverpool will win the league but there are little things going against them that haven’t in the last couple of seasons.
“The same for Manchester City and that makes it interesting.”

We agree with every word – although, Liverpool did look a little shaky even with Van Dijk. They lost 7-2 to Aston Villa with him in the side, after all.
But looking at the rest of the league, we think Neville is right. Liverpool still look like really strong contenders and that’s without their best player.
Despite all the injuries, they are still level on points with Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the table. You’ve got to imagine they’d have beaten the likes of Brighton with a fully-fit team.
You can make the same claim about the City game, too. Liverpool would be clear if they’d had a bit more luck.
As things stand, though, we still think Jordan Henderson will lift the trophy again. Liverpool are still adapting to life without Van Dijk but beat Wolves 4-0 and Leicester City 3-0.
Once they’re fully comfortable – let alone with any January additions on top – Liverpool should be able to pull away.
The clash with Spurs this month is the big one. Win that and the Reds are surely big favourites.
