Liverpool like the look of Sebastian Walukiewicz, according to reports. That’s despite the defender just signing a new contract.
This comes from Corriere dello Sport. They claim that Liverpool, along with Internazionale, Chelsea and Manchester United, have an eye on Sebastian Walukiewicz.
The Polish centre-half has just signed a new contract, however. It means that Cagliari will want around £54m for any sale – a huge fee for an inexperienced player.
Walukiewicz is only 20, with just 23 Serie A games under his belt. He’s given a high enough impression, though, that Cagliari believe he can command a serious fee, should any club want to take a chance on him.
What RTK has to say
The chances of Liverpool spending that kind of money on a 20-year-old centre-half are slim. Especially when someone like Dayot Upamecano – a player at a similar age but with for more experience – reportedly has a £34m release clause this summer.

Perhaps the real problem with a deal like this is that Liverpool will want a proven centre-half with their next signing. This season is showing how important it is to have players at the club ready to step in.
That feeling goes even further when no one know how Virgil van Dijk or Joe Gomez will return from injury. Liverpool can’t sign an even relatively unknown player and then find out that either of their first-choices won’t fully recover.
So we think we’ll wait until further down the line before links between Liverpool and Walukiewicz mean anything. He just doesn’t have the experience and proven ability to command a hefty fee – yet.
In a year or two, when he’s got a couple of full Serie A seasons’ experience, perhaps he’s one to seriously consider. But we’re just going to wait until then.
