Jurgen Klopp could be tempted into moving Fabinho forward against Wolves. Here are two reasons why the Brazilian could change position.
We recently wrote about Jurgen Klopp having room to experiment with Fabinho. The Liverpool boss has Nat Phillips playing well and a fresh squad to pick from.
The Brazilian has mainly played centre-half since injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, of course. Could Klopp move him back into midfield, though?
Here are two reasons that could tempt the German.
Aggression
Wolves like to spring counter-attacks from deep. Liverpool’s best counter to that is undoubtedly a high press, which would involve the midfield looking to push forward quickly.
That’s a risky approach, of course. Two midfielders would frequently push on, leaving a lone holding player. Klopp, then, may prefer if that covering player is Fabinho – arguably the best in the world at it.
It would also mean Jordan Henderson could be one of the pressing midfielders. Again, we’re talking about one of the world’s best at the role.
So if Klopp wants to press high, perhaps this is the way to go.
Pace
Wolves won’t have Raul Jimenez in their team, meaning they’ll probably double-down on their pace out wide and in-behind on the counter-attack. That might worry Klopp.
It’s not that Fabinho can’t defend against pace but that he’s hyper-aggressive in his style. He’s not a defender who will drop deep to control a runner and limit space in behind – quite the opposite.

If Fabinho sees a tackle, he goes for it. It’s fantastic when it comes off and particularly good when Liverpool sit deep.
But against a team looking to hit the space in behind all game with rapid pace, it might be a little too aggressive. We’ll see how much Klopp trusts Fabinho with that one against Wolves.
