Neco Williams may well start in the Premier League against Wolves on Sunday. But it could be his last in the league for a while.

Neco Williams is in line to start against Wolves after a fine performance against Ajax. The teenager started shakily but turned things around in the second half, earning an assist for the winner.

Williams was better than just the assist, though. He looked confident and comfortable throughout the half – his best performance for some time.

It’ll surely earn him a start against Wolves that will hopefully got better than his previous one against Brighton. Jurgen Klopp took Williams off at half-time in that one as he just didn’t look comfortable out there.

Unfortunately, for Williams, though, this will surely be his final chance at a Premier League start for some time.

The return

Trent Alexander-Arnold is nearly back and could return against Wolves. That’s according to the Express, who believe he’ll feature.

We don’t believe he’ll start the game – Liverpool will surely want to gradually bring him back – but there’s no doubt that Alexander-Arnold will be starting games soon.

And once he does, Williams will have to make do with his understudy role once again.

Alexander-Arnold isn’t injured very often, either, meaning it could be some time before Williams gets another start in the Premier League. Let alone back-to-back starts like he could get here.

We don’t envisage the latter happening for a quite a long time, in fact.

It’s a tough position for Williams, who may feel he didn’t entirely take his opportunity while Alexander-Arnold has been out. What we saw against Ajax was certainly encouraging, though.

It’ll mean Klopp is far more likely to give Williams games here and there, particularly from the bench. But that’s surely as good as the 19-year-old can hope for over the the next few months.
