Liverpool are through to the knockout phases of this season’s Champions League having won their group with ease. The Reds have their last game to play with no pressure on either side, as a result we’ll be expecting a heavily rotated side. Here are three Liverpool stars who could make their Champions League debut v Midtjylland:
Billy Koumetio was the belle of the ball in pre-season.
The 18-year-old defender impressed fans and pundits alike with his mature performances over the summer.
Since then we’ve seen him appear on the bench for the first team but he’s continued to shine in the academy despite an injury lay off.
Given the lack of numbers at the back at the moment it would make sense to rest our starting centre backs, affording an opportunity for the highly rated Frenchman.
Free kick specialist Jake Cain made the bench against Ajax in midweek but it wasn’t the first time we’ve seen him named in the Champions League squad this season.
The 19-year-old midfielder has been impressing for the U23s, not least because of his impeccable dead ball ability.
He is regularly found bending one in to the top corner from a free kick and he has an eye for a pass too.
Given how often he’s made the bench in the competition this year we can expect him to make the starting lineup next week.
The versatile midfielder has become a key cog of the U23s side alongside his old mate Jake Cain.
The pair were on the bench as the Reds beat Ajax 1-0 this week.
He is one to keep an eye on for the future and given the high praise he received from Jürgen Klopp we could well see him make his Champions League debut next week.
