Liverpool sign Diogo Jota

If the signing of Thiago was somewhat expected then Liverpool signing Diogo Jota was a shock.

The Reds’ interest in the Portuguese star appeared to come from nowhere.

Liverpool had been linked with Thiago for weeks and months but they weren’t once rumoured to be interested in Jota.

It felt as though it was just a matter of hours between Liverpool being linked with Jota and a deal being done.

The Reds ended up bringing the Premier League star in for a £41m fee.

Michael Owen on Diogo Jota

This Tuesday night saw yet another sharp performance from the Reds’ summer signing.

Michael Owen was drooling over Diogo Jota after his display against Ajax.

The Reds’ forward was in fine fettle, creating chances left and right – he really should’ve scored at least one. Ex-England star Owen told BT Sport:

“No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has

“You’d have to say he’s the best signing of the season so far in the Premier League.

“He’s surprised me with his pace, I must admit. I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for. Against Atalanta he was electric.

“He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space.

“I just think he’s scored headers, right foot, left foot, he’s scored everything so far and he’s looked the real deal in terms of linking play.

“Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far.”

What RTK has to say

Michael Owen is entirely right about Diogo Jota, he is undoubtedly the signing of the summer.

Whilst other sides have spent ridiculous amounts on talents from across Europe, the Reds looked closer to home and appear to have bagged a bargain.

Many were questioning the fee at first but we had the same initial response to the signing of Virgil van Dijk.

The Portuguese star has already shown that he is worth every penny, given his age he could be a star for the club for years to come.
