Liverpool have qualified for the knockout stages as group winners. The Reds performed valiantly in the group stages this year. Whereas we usually leave it to the last minute, this season we’ve done it with a game to spare. We can still focus on the other games though. Liverpool chances of signing Perr Schuurs could be boosted if Atalanta beat Ajax.
Liverpool qualify early
The Reds have put in some strong performances in the Champions League this season.
Jürgen Klopp’s side were determined and professional away at Ajax.
Liverpool were in full control on a trip to Atalanta, blowing the Italians away 5-0.
Most recently the side looked fluid and dangerous at home against Ajax.
Aside from disappointing showings at home to Atalanta and Midtjylland, the Reds have been excellent.
Atalanta take on Ajax
Second place in the group is very much up for grabs.
The equation is simple: if Ajax beat Atalanta then the Dutch champions are though.
A draw is enough to see the Italians into the next round.
The pair played out an entertaining 2-2 draw earlier on in the season and next week’s tie promises to be just as exciting.
Liverpool and Perr Schuurs implications
Atalanta coming out on top could boost Liverpool hopes of landing Perr Schuurs in January.
The Reds have been consistently linked with a move for the Dutchman.
He fits the Liverpool profile: he is just 21-years-old, has tonnes of first team experience and he is composed in possession.
De Telegraaf recently claimed that Liverpool could land Perr Schuurs for just £27m.
Should Ajax be eliminated from the Champions League then a January move could be more likely – they may want to hold onto him for a run in Europe’s premier competition, if they’re out then things change.
