Tight at the top

As it stands Liverpool are joint top of the table on points.

The Reds are behind Spurs only on goal difference with Chelsea two points off the pace.

In total just six points separates the top half of the table.

As we head into December we are gearing up for one of the most open and enthralling title races of recent times.

A number of sides are still in with a shot, many are expecting the winning points tally to come crashing down from the high 90s we’ve seen recently.

Emile Heskey on injuries and title race

Kopites will tell you that if it wasn’t for injuries the Reds would be soaring high at the top of the table.

Jürgen Klopp has lost most of his first team at one time or another this term with eight players currently absent.

Speaking exclusively to Rousing the Kop, Emile Heskey said that injuries could be the deciding factor in the title race:

“At this moment it’s injuries (that will decide the title race) because it’s injuries that’s taking away some very important players, which is what we’re seeing at Liverpool.

“Will that stop them from breaking away from everyone else and really sustaining a charge like they did last season?

“Again, the Christmas period is tough. Back to back games, trying to get over injuries and get people back.

“I think there was a stat where Jose didn’t do too well against the top six when he won the league but he made sure he was winning the other games – so you need to do well on both sides (with injuries and consistency).

What RTK has to say

The Premier League is turning into the Grand National.

Whoever doesn’t fall before the end wins the thing.

Emile Heskey is right in that the title race could well come down to injuries.

If Liverpool can get Thiago back and keep him fit along with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold then you can’t look past the Reds for the title.

However, whether they can get these players back is another matter.
