Jurgen Klopp emphatically answered a question on Liverpool’s potential title challenge this season. The boss is in no doubt.
Jurgen Klopp clearly knows that the title challenge will be tough this season. He showed that in his pre-match press conference ahead of Brighton v Liverpool
The Reds are defending their crown after a surprisingly simple campaign last season. Liverpool effectively wrapped it up in December before embarking on a six-month-long victory parade.
But that won’t be the case this year.
When journalists asked Klopp whether the title challenge will be harder this year, he had just one word in response – “Yes.”
What RTK has to say
There are several reasons why things will be tougher this season. Primarily because Liverpool just aren’t as good as last season.
They can’t possibly be, given Virgil van Dijk is out injured for the season and Joe Gomez could be, too. But that isn’t the entire extent of their injury crisis.
Alisson, Joel Matip, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah are all either injured or have previously been out.
But that’s just one reason. Arguably, this season was always tougher purely because last season was an anomaly. No one had ever won it with such ease.

Add to that the compacted season and even if Liverpool did run away with it, they’d face a harder time regardless.
So it’s no wonder Klopp was so emphatic with his response. The title challenge is undoubtedly more challenging this season.
