Liverpool have been terrifying opposition the world over in recent years. The Reds have climbed to the summit of the sport using a functional, well oiled machine of a midfield. One of the key cogs of this machine could leave the club in a matter of months. Paul Robinson has urged Liverpool to tie Gini Wijnaldum down to a new contract or risk a ‘huge hole’ in the side.
Gini Wijnaldum contract
In an ongoing saga testing the patience and blood pressure of Kopites everywhere, Gini Wijnaldum’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The Dutchman entered this season having not signed a new deal and with speculation that Barcelona were circling, waiting to take him to the Nou Camp.
Ronald Koeman took over the Catalan giants over the summer and reportedly made signing the midfielder a ‘non-negotiable priority’.
Should the Reds not agree a new deal with the ex-Newcastle man then he will be able to negotiate with the Spanish side from January.
Paul Robinson on Gini Wijnaldum contract
Speaking to Football Insider, Paul Robinson urged Liverpool to tie Gini Wijnaldum down to a new contract.
The Dutchman put in a strong performance against Leicester City on Sunday evening, once again proving his worth to the team.
Robinson feels that this weekend’s showing was a perfect example of just why the Reds need to get a deal done, saying:
“If Wijnaldum went in the summer they would have been really short on Sunday. He proved against Leicester that he is still a top-class player.
“There was a big onus on his shoulders because of the injuries Liverpool have had and you can see that if he was to leave at the end of the season he would leave a huge hole.
“Liverpool will throw another contract at him and try to get him to sign because if he does leave they will need to find a replacement.”

We couldn’t agree with Paul Robinson more on the Gini Wijnaldum situation.
The Dutchman is so vital to the way the team plays, we cannot afford to lose him.
However, we cannot afford to give him a four or five year deal if that is what he is asking for, so we are in between a rock and a hard place.
Hopefully something can be done by January, otherwise it’s goodbye.
