Liverpool suffered a very poor 0-2 defeat against Atalanta on Wednesday. It forces them to wait to qualify from their UEFA Champions League group.

Liverpool 0-2 Atalanta – not a result we saw coming. Very few Reds played well on a disappointing night. Victory would have brought about Champions League qualification, after all.

Here’s how we rated the performances.

Alisson Becker – 5

Conceded two but no one could have expected him to stop either goal. Other than that, he really didn’t have much to do.

Neco Williams – 3

A really poor game. He never got up to the speed of the game, frequently looking out of his depth and giving the ball away.

Joel Matip –

Rhys Williams – 4

At fault for the second goal as he just left his man. His worst performance thus far – but it’s not really close. You’re going to get these from inexperienced players.

Kostas Tsimikas – 5

Didn’t accomplish much but you can see the energy and intensity there. Don’t want to judge him too much as it was his first serious appearance.

Curtis Jones – 5

Tried to get involved but nothing came off for him. Far from the player he was in Bergamo, in truth.

Gini Wijnaldum – 5

There for a very quiet period of the game. A very middling performance, like everyone else at that point.

James Milner – 7

Milner was absolutely everywhere on a night that saw him covering all over midfield and defence. Stood up to help out whenever he could and his energy was truly remarkable. This is a player who played the full 90 on Sunday in a different position, remember.

Sadio Mane – 5

The only forward to play the whole game but didn’t really do much. The effort levels were there but little else, unfortunately.

Divock Origi – 4

A rare opportunity for Origi but he didn’t come close to taking it. We’re not sure when we’ll see him next after this.

Mohamed Salah – 6

Lots of running but no service at all. Did try to make things happen, though, and was unfortunate with a right-footed effort in the first-half.

Andy Robertson – 6

Can’t fault his work-rate after coming on. Like everyone else, however, nothing clicked.

Fabinho – 5

Didn’t do anything wrong but never got the chance to as Atalanta sat back soon after he came on.

Roberto Firmino – 5

Tried, of course, but nothing came off – we’re saying that quite a lot.

Diogo Jota – 5

And we’ll say it here again. Ran plenty, tried to do something, just couldn’t click with anything.

Takumi Minamino – N/A

Didn’t really get enough time to do anything.
