Harvey Elliott is the latest Red to pick up a knee injury. The on-loan teenager went off for Blackburn Rovers as they beat Preston North End.
Liverpool aren’t just picking up injuries – knee injuries are particularly prevalent. And it appears you don’t even need to be at the club to get one.
Virgil van Dijk will likely miss the season with one, while Joe Gomez required surgery on his, too. Thiago has been missing since a terrible foul on his knee in the Merseyside derby.
And now Harvey Elliott joins them with a knee injury of his own. The teenager came on as a substitute for Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday but lasted only 20 minutes before going off again.
A solid kick to his knee was the problem – Elliott tried to continue but had to leave the field.
It’s certainly early days yet but we have a rough idea of the situation already. That’s because manager Tony Mowbray was able to give an early update.
“The early news is that we hope it’s just a kick,” he said, per the Lancashire Telegraph. “It’s come up pretty quickly, a bruise, and it doesn’t look like it’s badly damaged.
“When you think of a knee injury you think of ligament but it doesn’t seem to be anything like that.
“Just a pretty severe kick and we’re hoping that’s all it is.”
What RTK has to say
It’s just crazy and difficult to wrap your head around. Liverpool can’t escape injuries at the moment – even with players not at the club.

Half the first-team missed the win over Leicester City, of course, and most won’t be back to play Atalanta. It’s a full-on injury crisis.
Hopefully, though, Mowbray is right and Elliott recovers quickly. He’s had a wonderful start to life in the Championship and we’d really like to see it continue.
Fingers crossed, then.
