Gareth Crooks compares Diogo Jota to Ballon d'Or nominated legends

Garth Crooks compares Diogo Jota to two Liverpool legends after including the player in his Team of the Week. He’s clearly made an impression.

Garth Crooks clearly likes Diogo Jota. Not that he’s alone in that. Jota has started his Liverpool career beyond all expectations.

The 23-year-old scored again on Sunday, grabbing the second against Leicester City in a big game. That’s seven goals in his last eight games for the club.

It was also means Jota has scored in each of his first four home games for Liverpool in the Premier League. He’s the first to ever do that.

That certainly impressed Crooks as he included Jota in his Team of the Week.

“The impact Jota is having on Liverpool since his arrival on Merseyside has been quite extraordinary,” he wrote.

“It normally takes a player anything up to three months to settle into a new team, particularly if that arrival is after the season has started.

“Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish had similar impacts when they arrived at Anfield in the 1970s but there are not many like that.”

What RTK has to say

Well that’s pretty much as good as it gets. Keegan and Dalglish are two of the absolute greatest forwards ever – not just for Liverpool.

In fact, France Football named both in this year’s all-time Ballon d’Or award as they tried to build the greatest team in history.

Comparing Jota to those two is enormous praise and nearly as good as it gets as a Liverpool player. But let’s not get carried away.

Jota has only been around for a few months – there’s a long way to go. We’re certainly excited and he looks a bargain even at £41m.

But again, we need to see him do it for a season. If we’re still comparing him to Dalglish and Keegan in 12 months, then we’ve got someone seriously special.
