Kostas Tsimikas can finally have his big chance when Liverpool face Atalanta on Wednesday. The left-back is a little forgotten at the club right now.

Kostas Tsimikas needs a big chance. He’s barely played for Liverpool since arriving for around £12m before the season.

The Greek left-back has only had one start, in fact, and it came in the League Cup against Lincoln City. His only other competitive appearance was eight minutes at Atalanta when the game was all-but finished.

So it’s quite easy to forget about Tsimikas, especially when compared to the other summer arrivals.

Thiago, for instance, shone in his 135 minutes so far. And Diogo Jota simply looks like a superstar – he’s firmly one of the best players at the club right now.

Tsimikas, though, is just a background player. Brought in as backup, he’s barely had a chance to even do that.

But surely Tsimikas gets his shot against Atalanta on Wednesday.

Some terrible fixture scheduling means Liverpool play the early kick-off on Saturday after a Wednesday evening game. Not exactly sensible, especially when the club demonstrably has injury problems.

One player who has suffered an injury recently, for instance, is Andy Robertson. He missed a game for Scotland with a hamstring injury last week.

While he assures everyone that he’s okay, you can bet Jurgen Klopp would like to rest him against Atalanta. It’s a game Liverpool should win, after all, while they’re quite comfortable at the top of the group.

No need for risks with Robertson, then. But only if Tsimikas is ready to go. If he is, then this should be his first major appearance for Liverpool.

It’s the chance he will have been waiting for and hopefully, one he takes with both hands. Liverpool could desperately use more hands on deck and Tsimikas can help provide them.
