Juventus now lead the chase for Liverpool target Isak Bergmann Johannesson, according to reports. The 17-year-old is in high demand.

This comes from the Mirror. They claim that Juventus has stepped up their interest in Isak Bergmann Johannesson, a supposed Liverpool target.

Not that the two clubs are the only ones looking at Johannesson. Manchester United, too, like the teenager. And that’s particularly important.

“My dream club is Manchester United, together with IFK Norrkoping,” Johannesson said, per that same Mirror article. “I lived in Manchester when I was a kid, and I watched a lot of games there.

“It’s great that Liverpool have been watching me. And you can’t say that I am not going to go to Liverpool.”

What RTK has to say

Well, it certainly seems as though signing Johannesson would be an uphill struggle for Liverpool. Juventus lead the chase and he loves United – good luck Michael Edwards.

The Mirror claims the 17-year-old would cost at least £5m plus add-ons, which is hardly a large amount for a very promising player. Johannesson has already made his debut for Iceland, for some perspective.

But the finances aren’t the problem for Liverpool, here. It’s whether they can persuade Johannesson that Anfield is the best place for him to develop into a top talent.

That certainly isn’t impossible, either. The amount of young players pushing into the first-team is growing, after all, with Curtis Jones looking better and better. Neco Williams, too, is pushing on and Rhys Williams pops up now and again.

Then, of course, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the shining example of how Liverpool can develop a young player.

That will be the angle if Liverpool want to sign Johannesson. And anything short of completely convincing him will likely mean he disappears elsewhere.
