Liverpool may have found their next superstar forward far earlier than planned. The Reds managed to get a bargain for the player, too.
Liverpool need a new superstar. Maybe not right now but certainly soon. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are all 30 before long and the Reds will need to replace them.
That won’t be easy, of course. The trio have delivered a league title and Champions League – they’re the best front-three in the world and have been for three years.
But they can’t go on forever, so how do you replace them? The ‘easiest’ way to do that is to sign a superstar, of course.
Now, that’s only possible if you’re already a top club and have the finances to deliver such a player. Liverpool might do, however, especially if they move someone on.

Three players stand out as the potential answer – Jadon Sancho, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
But we can’t help but feel that Liverpool already have their next superstar at the club. And they only paid £41m for him.
That player is Diogo Jota, who has started his Liverpool career better than anyone could have thought.
Jota has scored seven goals in his last six Liverpool games, showing an ability to score every type. He’s score tap-ins, dribbles, chipped finishes, standing headers, running headers – Jota looks like a natural.
On top of that, he’s shown a rare ability to play anywhere across the forward line. That’s a skill that makes him just about perfect for any top team – especially ones looking to sign new players.
In theory, Liverpool could sign whichever top forwards they can to partner with Jota. No matter where they play, Jota can just play somewhere else and score goals.
Haaland cannot give you that, for instance. He plays as a centre-forward and Liverpool would need to pair him with wingers.
It’s early days, of course, but Jota is thriving. He’s scoring at an incredible rate, no matter where he plays, and just looks fantastic.
And he’s only 23. Jota is only going to get better, especially when you consider that Liverpool players tend take months to settle under Jurgen Klopp.
With that in mind, Jota could become an absolute superstar by the end of the season. And if he does, then Liverpool might already have the player to build their next great attack around.
