Liverpool face Leicester City at Anfield today in what will surely be the toughest game of their season. The Reds have problems from front to back.
Liverpool host Leicester City today, the team that went into this weekend on top of the Premier League. Results have pushed them down to third but make no mistake, they’re a fantastic team.
But we honestly have no idea if we can describe Liverpool that way. In fact, the team we see today almost certainly won’t be ‘fantastic’ but a group of players not used to playing together.
Now, the attack will be good – we know that much. Mohamed Salah won’t play but Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota can still put together an elite front-line.
It’s just that the midfield and defence are up in the air. We don’t know who will be right-back, we don’t know who will play in midfield, and the centre-halves will be the sixth-choice pairing at best.

So all things considered, Liverpool almost certainly face the toughest game of the entire season today. Not just the season so far – but tougher than anything to come.
They go into this against a side playing very well, with good players all over the pitch. That’s difficult enough. But they do so without any comfort or consistency in their own lineup.
By the time Tottenham Hotspur come to Anfield next month, for instance, things will be easier. Players will be back and Liverpool will have a much better idea of how to play in a post-injury crisis season.
Now, though, they really don’t have much of an idea. The Foxes will fancy their chances and we should regard any Liverpool win as a wonderful result.
