Paul Glatzel left on crutches after Liverpool U23s drew 0-0 with their Southampton counterparts. The teenager is barely back from a previous long-term injury.
It wasn’t a good game for Liverpool U23s as the senior side’s injury crisis appeared to hit them, too. You can read about Joe Hendry’s injury here but he wasn’t the only striker to leave the field prematurely.
Paul Glatzel went off at half-time after a kick on his ankle and the Liverpool Echo reports he left on crutches. More than that, the teenager was wearing a leg brace.
Jurgen Klopp took to the field to talk with the player at half-time and that’s no great surprise. This is bad news for Glatzel who is just three games back from a career-threatening injury.
The Scouser missed the entire 2019/20 season with ACL damage. He was primed for first-team chances, too, as he played with the first-team over pre-season.

And that was a season that saw a good few chances for the youngsters. Glatzel, undoubtedly, would have got a chance, too.
This is a player Klopp labelled ‘unbelievable’ last year, after all.
Glatzel may have fancied a chance or two this season, though, given the injury crisis and tough schedule. He could perhaps have squeezed into the team for a game or two, even just on the bench.
Instead, it seems as though Glatzel will face another spell on the sidelines. The ‘promising’ thing is that this is not a reoccurrence of his previous injury and doesn’t seem anywhere near as serious.
Still, it’s a setback for a very promising young forward just as he was getting back to full speed.
