Aissa Mandi is set to renew his contract with Real Betis, according to reports. This comes after Liverpool dropped their interest in the defender.
This comes from Estadio Deportivo. They say that Aissa Mandi and Real Betis are close to a new contract.
Liverpool come into this after summer links to the player, with Cope claiming a £9m deal was possible. The outlet backs up those reports, too, saying the Reds did want Mandi.
But not anymore. Any rumours now are merely carryover from before the season and Liverpool no longer want Mandi.
And we’re not surprised.

What RTK has to say
We wrote plenty about Mandi back when initial reports came out about Liverpool’s interest. One of which, though, was that he came with a catch.
Mandi’s disciplinary record was worrying – not something you need in a squad player whose primary job is to be available when others aren’t.
And as it turned out, the worry was justified. Mandi has already been sent off twice this season in just seven La Liga games.
That’s an appalling record and one Liverpool couldn’t possibly justify. Especially as they go through an injury crisis – can you imagine the uproar if he got his marching orders when we barely have XI players to piece together?
It’s just not what you need in a squad player. Yes, Mandi is a decent player and yes, he’s value for money with his experience.
But he just wasn’t a risk worth taking for Liverpool. They’ve rightly moved on, even with the current injury crisis.
