Marcelo Pitaluga made his debut for Liverpool U18s on Saturday. The Brazilian then posted a nice message to Twitter after his bow.
Marcelo Pitaluga got about the best debut you can get as a goalkeeper. He kept a clean-sheet, after all, as Liverpool U18s beat Leeds United U18s 5-0.
The Brazilian arrived this season from Fluminense in Brazil. He actually played there with Alisson Becker’s brother, and the Liverpool no.1 supposedly played a unique role in his arrival.
Now Pitaluga is firmly at Liverpool and on his way with the club. His debut was the start he would have wanted and he took to Twitter to show his delight at the moment.
“Delighted to make my debut for [Liverpool]!,” he wrote. “Great team performance! #Cleansheet.”
Needless to say, fans reacted to the message with a mix of congratulations and hype. They hope he could follow in Brazilian footsteps to become Liverpool no.1 himself someday.
Now, there’s a long way to go, of course. Pitaluga is still only 17 but the fact he’s already signed for one of the world’s biggest clubs is certainly encouraging.
There are a host of very bright young prospects at Liverpool now. Pitaluga joins them and on the face of it, the future is incredibly promising.
We know Jurgen Klopp is happy to blood youngsters, too. Now, we don’t expect to see Pitaluga in the first-team anytime soon but his development over the next few years will tell us when we will.
A good couple of years and Liverpool could always adapt their transfer strategy, though. Alisson will be around for a while but Adrian won’t be – there really might be a place as backup before too long.
Pitaluga is one to watch, then. Liverpool went out of their way to bring him in and he’s straight into the youth setup. But now the real work begins.
