Liverpool are in a three-way fight to secure a deal for David Alaba, according to reports. His wage demands, however, are particularly high.
This comes from Marca. They claim Real Madrid want to get a deal done for David Alaba in January. They face a fight from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, though.
It’s very likely Alaba leaves Bayern Munich, they say. He rejected their contract offer that feel short of his £9m-a-year demands – but he faces a problem.
The report says that none of Real, PSG, or Liverpool can meet those demands, either. Worse for the latter two, Alaba wants to play in La Liga.
The trio can officially discuss terms with Alaba on January first as his contract expires at the end of the season.
What RTK has to say
So he’d cost a fortune in wages and doesn’t particularly want to play in England? Liverpool might face an uphill battle here.
The biggest problem with Alaba is that he’s best as either a left-back or a midfielder. Liverpool have no need for either.
He can play centre-half, yes, but is he good enough there to justify £9m-a-year in wages? We’re not so sure.
Not to mention the fact that he’d play left-centre in defence, which is Virgil van Dijk’s place. The Dutchman’s not gone forever, you know.

So all in all, we just can’t see this one working out. There are simply too many things that don’t add up for Liverpool.
Great player, wrong time.
