Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements at the back. Jürgen Klopp has been reduced to just one centre back in the first team squad after a string of unfortunate injuries. Salzburg pedigree

Prospective Liverpool target Duje Caleta-Car spent four years at RB Salzburg.

The Croatian made 130 appearances for the Austrian side in all competitions.

The Reds have a track record for signing players who have played for Salzburg with Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Taki Minamino having been there at one time or another.

Croatian international

The defender has 10 caps for Croatia, meaning he is regularly linking up at national training camps with ex-Red Dejan Lovren.

In fact, the pair started at the centre of defence for Croatia’s recent 2-1 win over Sweden.

Towering presence

Duje Caleta-Car is a towering figure at the back, measuring in at 6ft 4in tall.

Given that the Reds are without the commanding presence of Virgil van Dijk, Caleta-Car could fill in in that respect.

A strong Marseille side

Marseille finished second in the French Ligue 1 last term and are currently just six points off the leaders with a game in hand.

Potential Liverpool target Duje Caleta-Car has been a regular feature at the back of this impressive Marseille side.

He has played in each of his side’s nine games this term and took part in 23 of their 28 last season.

West Ham rumours

Ok so the rumours aren’t fact but it is a fact that there were rumours.

According to The Guardian the centre back turned down West Ham United over the summer with the Hammers looking to bring him to East London in a £20m deal.

If the Reds only had to pay £20m, he could be worth a punt.
