Liverpool are in dire need of a centre back. The Reds are down to the bare bones at the back after a series of injuries decimated the club’s back four. Many believe that the club will decide to move in January to bolster the ranks. Speaking to Analysing Anfield, David Alexander Hughes has suggested that Liverpool should move for Duje Caleta-Car from Marseille.
Liverpool back four decimated
The Reds started the season with just three centre backs in the first team.
The decision to sell Dejan Lovren without replacing him was questioned by many but the club were confident that Fabinho would be enough cover at centre half.
Since then we’ve seen Virgil van Dijk ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.
Whilst Joe Gomez has also had his season cut short with a knee problem.

Joel Matip is the last man standing at the back with Fabinho also recovering from a muscle issue.
As a result many believe the Reds will move for a defender in January.
Liverpool should move for Duje Caleta-Car
Speaking to the Liverpool ECHO’s Analysing Anfield show, scout and journalist David Alexander Hughes suggested that Liverpool should move for Duje Caleta-Car.
The 24-year-old joined Marseille from RB Salzburg back in 2018.
Since then he has been an impressive part of an impressive side, finishing second in Ligue 1 last term.
This season he has continued to shine, earning a WhoScored average rating of 6.96 from nine league appearances.
The Guardian reported in recent months that the defender turned down a move to West Ham United with the London side confident of agreeing a £20m fee.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Duje Caleta-Car would certainly fit the profile.
He would be a move from out of left field and he would come at a relative snip.
At just £20m you can do much worse than a player with his numbers and his CV – anybody RB Salzburg took an interest in is worth a second look.
We will be keeping our eyes on this one, the Reds need a centre back urgently – is this 6ft 4in Croatian the answer?
