Liverpool could 'fix deal in January' for Dayot Upamecano

Liverpool are in the midst of the worst defensive crisis seen in decades. Jürgen Klopp has seen his starting partnership ruled out for (at least most of) the season and he is likely going to have to turn to his academy as a result. Many have backed the Reds to bring in reinforcements in the coming transfer window. According to SportBILD, Liverpool could fix a deal for Dayot Upamecano in January.

Liverpool defensive woes

Jürgen Klopp must be wondering just when he’s going to get a break.

The Reds boss has seen his side utterly decimated by injuries this season.

The defence has been worst hit. After starting the season with just three centre backs, the boss is now down to just one for what could be the remainder of the campaign.

Virgil van Dijk was in an unfortunate Jordan Pickford accident whilst Joe Gomez caught a nasty case of the England duty, both are unlikely to appear again this term due to knee issues.

With Joel Matip the last centre back standing, many believe that the Reds will invest in the coming window.

Liverpool and Dayot Upamecano

According to SportBILD, Liverpool could ‘fix a deal in January’ for Dayot Upamecano.

The talented young French centre back has also caught the attention of both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Bayern Munich are also cited as an interested party, though they are said to be sorting out the future of David Alaba first.

The German outlet believes that Bayern’s dithering over Alaba could see Liverpool agree a Dayot Upamecano deal in January.

Bild states that this could see the Reds pay his £40m release clause early with a view to a summer transfer.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool signing Dayot Upamecano makes a lot of sense.

He has an eye for a pass, pace to burn and more than a decade left to develop.

However, the growing demand for his services could see a bidding war – a situation the Reds have often avoided.

We are desperate for a January arrival, fingers crossed we’ll get one.
